Many people ask me, “What is that secret formula for success given out by the master strategist – Krishna, in the Holy Gita”?
So in this video, we look at that famous formula for success, implementing which nothing can stop you from gaining success in whatever you want in the world. And remember, it’s given out by no less than the Lord Himself.
So this priceless formula for success is given out in verse 30 of Chapter Three of the Holy Bhagavad Gita, which is one of the most oft quoted verses of the Gita, wherein the Lord declares, ” Mye Sarvani Karmani Sanyasaat Dhyaatma Chaitasa, Nirashi NirMummo Bhutva, Yudyasva Vigatajwara.”
He says there are three ingredients to success. three disciplines that we got to learn and practice day in and day out to gain success in any endeavor that we want.
The first discipline he mentions is “Concentration or focus”.
I can’t emphasize enough on this important aspect. Now, what exactly is concentration or focus? Many people just know its word meaning – it’s synonyms alone.
When you ask someone, what’s the meaning of focus? Invariably, they will say, “Concentration.” And when you ask them, okay, so what is concentration? How do we exactly concentrate? And they will revert and say, it means, “Focus, simply focus.”
So we’re just quibbling with words without really understanding it’s true import. But here the Management Guru Krishna explains to us what exactly is concentration or focus? And how do we achieve it, and what exactly distracts us. So the Lord says, “Concentration of focus is when our intellect holds our mind on the present action, without allowing it to slip into past worries or future anxieties.”
I repeat for what it’s worth, “When our intellect holds our mind on the present action without allowing it to slip into the past or future, we are concentrating period.”
So the nature of the mind, your mind, my mind, everyone’s mind, even Albert Einstein’s mind, the natural tendency of the mind friends is that it slips into the past worries, or gets anxious about the future.
So when we undertake a new project, for instance, the mind goes into the past and starts worrying, “the last time I undertook a project, I failed, or I did not do very well”, or it might slip into the future anxieties, future results, expectations, so on and so forth. For example the mind might say, “What if I don’t get what I really want?” Or it could get all excited about the fruits of the results of our actions.
So here, the Lord says, We got to use our Intellect, our Buddhi, to keep our mind on the present job, without allowing it to ruminate. Now, let us not get this wrong.
When he says, We got to clip the past and future, it does not mean that we must not take our past or future into account. Obviously, while programming a course of action, we have to take our past learnings, our past experiences into consideration. Similarly, we got to take our future targets our future goals into account. But having analyzed all that, once we plunge into action, and then if we allow our mind to keep slipping into the past or future, then he says, well, it’s going to really impede an impair the productivity and quality of our present action – thereby leading to failure. So that’s the first discipline, “Concentration or Focus.”
And now coming to the second discipline highlighted by the Lord, and that is – “Consistency, consistency of purpose”. Whatever we want success in, we ought to be consistent and persistent.
All our actions ought to be directed towards our chosen goal in which we want to succeed. And this channelization, is again done by our Intellect, our Buddhi. Why? Because it’s the mind in us that’s irresolute – that sways in all directions. It has no direction or dimension. And unfortunately, it gets carried away by the petty, petty and paltry attractions of the World.
So the question is, are all your actions directed towards your chosen goal? Because when our actions are flowing in one direction friends, there is enormous power, there’s enormous energy that’s generated. Let’s look at a few examples corroborating this fact:
Example 1: When water flows in one direction, it has a lot of power and energy, any obstacle that comes in its way, it easily rides over it, or even blasts and moves forward. We also generate hydroelectric power through this unidirectional flow of water.
Example 2: When wind blows in one direction, it has tremendous power and energy. We all know what tornadoes and cyclones can do. Again, with wind energy, we generate electricity. So we got to make sure that we are consistent and persistent in our efforts. A great author puts this beautifully. And he says, “Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out”. That’s consistency of purpose.
And now coming to the last discipline, and that is cooperation, working in a spirit of cooperative endeavor, working as a team.
To achieve success, to really make it big in life, we just can’t do it all by ourselves, we got to develop the support and cooperation of others. If we observe our very life itself, whatever we have achieved till now, it would have been impossible without the contribution of others. So when we pull resources, when we pull different talents towards a common goal, keeping in mind that no one is big or small. Everyone has a role to play i.e We all are, but spokes in the wheel of life, hence having no superiority or inferiority complexes.
So when we recognize and appreciate each one’s contribution, we are bound to be successful in whatever we want.
Example, I know of some unfortunate leaders, some unfortunate managers who openly admit that they hate their labor, they hate their employees. Now what’s gonna happen? It’s reciprocal, right? The labor will in turn hate the management – the manager, the leader. Thus, leading to a disaster.
So recognizing and seeking the cooperation of all is of utmost importance. Let us not forget that in the last world war, Germany and Japan were devastated. They were virtually devastated. But today, there’s a well developed, there’s a mighty Germany, a mighty Japan. How is that? Because people came together, pulled their resources, worked in a spirit of cooperative endeavor, and rebuild their nation.
Similarly, what was America and Australia just 200 years ago, just 200 years ago, America and Australia were virtually nothing. The early settlers came together, pooled their resources worked in a spirit of cooperation. And today, we all know, what is America and what is Australia.
So friends, these are the three ingredients for the recipe of success taught by the Lord. If you look around in the world, and if you see any successful person or organization, you will clearly see that he or she is consciously or unconsciously practicing these three disciplines.
So here’s wishing you great success in your personal and professional life. May you implement these time-tested values, and achieve great heights of success!
Thank you. God bless.
